Columbia's Wilson apologizes for comments after game

Columbia football coach Norries Wilson apologized yesterday for comments he made Saturday after his team lost 16-0 to Penn at Franklin Field.

In a statement released by the Columbia athletic department, Wilson said, "I apologize for comments I made in the post-game press conference. . I realize that some of my comments may have been interpreted as critical of Ivy League football game officials, as well as athletics personnel at Penn. . Unfortunately, I chose to voice my support for our team in an inappropriate way."

Saturday, Wilson accused Penn coaches of negative recruiting, saying that Penn administrators "at half-time told our kids that they go to a [junior-varsity] school" and criticizing game officials. Columbia Athletic Director Dianne Murphy also released a statement, standing by her coach and his character but also apologizing for his remarks.

She said she and Wilson apologized to Penn Athletic Director Steve Bilsky, the other six Ivy ADs and the league officiating office.
