An FBI shoeprint expert testified yesterday about two prints found on the murdered body of Irina Zlotnikov - one near her neck and one between her breasts.
Zlotnikov was found dead in the apartment of Robert Bondar, her boyfriend at the time. Bondar had previously dated Wharton undergraduate Irina Malinovskaya, who is on trial for Zlotnikov's murder.
The shoe prints found at the crime scene belonged to a size-8 Adidas sneaker, but shoe-print expert William Bodziak testified that margin of error allows for some ambiguity in determining whether or not it was a man or woman's shoe.
The same print was also found on a piece of paper at the crime scene.
Prosecutors also called detective Joseph Szczerba, the case's lead investigator, to the stand yesterday after showing the conclusion of Malinovskaya's videotaped interrogation.
Szczerba testified that Malinovskaya was always cooperative during questioning and, despite his attempts to get her to admit that she had been inside Bondar's apartment on the day of the murder, maintained her innocence.
The trial continues this morning with the prosecution's final witness. The defense will begin its case today.
