SAT scoring mishap affects 16 applicants

The most recent round of misscored SATs affected 16 Penn applicants, according to Dean of Admissions Lee Stetson.

In the past month, the College Board has made a series of announcements revealing that many of its October tests were incorrectly marked.

Penn learned of the newly affected applicants late last week after the College Board announced that an additional 27,000 tests had not been properly checked for errors.

Of these answer sheets, 375 were found to have been misscored.

Stetson did not say if any of the 16 students applied to Penn early or whether the score changes have altered admissions decisions.

The previous week, the College Board announced that about 1,600 tests were overlooked, of which 18 had incorrect scores.

The first round of errors resulted in about 4,000 students with wrongly scored tests. Of these, 103 were Penn applicants. The admissions office has not changed its decision regarding any such applicants who applied early.

The revelation that additional applicants were misscored comes at a difficult time for Penn admissions officers, who are currently in the process of finalizing decisions for the regular-admissions pool.

The mishaps resulted from moisture on the test sheets that interfered with the test scanning.
