Franklin and Marshall coach to replace Coen

The Penn athletic department wasted little time in finding a replacement for the departed Andy Coen, who left to become the head coach at Lehigh. Shawn Halloran, who resigned yesterday as head coach at Division III Franklin and Marshall, will take over as offensive coordinator for the Penn football team next season.

Halloran played his college ball at Boston College, where he was the backup to Doug Flutie before passing for 5,252 yards. That total put him at third all-time in program history, behind Flutie and Glenn Foley.

Halloran was drafted in 1986 by the Saint Louis Cardinals, but left the NFL after finding little success with the Cardinals and the Miami Dolphins.

In 1991, Halloran got his first coaching job as a graduate assistant coach under Tom Coughlin at B.C. He served as an assistant coach at WPI in 1992 and the offensive coordinator at Georgetown from 1993-97. Halloran later made his Division I-AA coaching debut as the linebacker and special teams coach at Yale until 2003.

As the head coach at Franklin and Marshall, the 41-year-old compiled a 17-15 record over three seasons. In 2004, he led the Diplomats to an 8-3 record, a tie for first in the Centennial Conference, and a victory in the ECAC Southwest Bowl.
