M. Track helps Ivies to victory over Big East

Penn had two NCAA qualifying performances and 15 IC4A qualifiers at Friday's Ivy League-Big East Cup at the Armory in New York City.

Senior Courtney Jaworski ran the mile in 4:03.53 and sophomore Kyle Calvo jumped 7.52 meters in the long jump, en route to the NCAAs.

The meet pitted Penn, Princeton and Cornell against Connecticut, Rutgers and Seton Hall of the Big East. Each school ran two athletes in each event, which was officially hosted by Princeton, despite being held in New York.

According to the Princeton University Athletic Department, the score was 192-190 in favor of the Ivy League.

Owls pull upset; 'Cats, La Salle escape losses

Mardy Collins and Dustin Salisbury combined for 48 points and Temple took advantage of 20 Maryland turnovers in a 91-85 upset of the No. 18 Terrapins.

Kyle Lowry nailed a tip-in off of a Randy Foye miss with 1.7 seconds to go, and No. 6 Villanova held off a pesky Notre Dame squad in South Bend, 72-70.

NBA-bound Steven Smith scored 24 points and Jermaine Thomas contributed 19 as La Salle beat Massachusetts -- who had blown out Temple a week ago -- by a score of 69-61 to pull within one game of .500 in theAtlantic 10.
