Columbia hires new football head coach

Following a 2-8 season, Columbia has found the man it hopes will revive the Lions' reeling football program.

Norries Wilson, previously the offensive coordinator at Connecticut, will take over the reins of the Lions from Bob Shoop, who was dismissed after compiling a three-year record of 7-23.

Before spending seven years with the Huskies, Wilson worked at Bucknell, Livingstone, North Carolina Central and Minnesota.

Columbia has not finished above .500 since 1996.

Former Penn coach earns first victory

It took five games, but former Penn men's basketball assistant Gil Jackson has earned his first win as a head coach.

Jackson's Howard Bison defeated Maryland-Eastern Shore by a score of 79-68 on Saturday in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference matchup.

Jackson, who was Penn coach Fran Dunphy's first hire in 1989, joined the Bison in September.

The Bison (2-3) chose Jackson to reestablish a once-strong program that has not won a MEAC championship in 13 years.

Penn assistant picked to lead Stony Brook

Chuck Priore, who spent seven years as an assistant coach for Penn's football team, has been hired as the head coach of SUNY-Stony Brook.

Priore was the offensive line coach and offensive coordinator for Penn from 1992-1999, helping the Quakers to a 52-27 record and three Ivy League championships.

Priore takes over from Sam Kornhauser, who retired after 22 seasons with the Seawolves.

Stony Brook finished 6-4 in 2005, winning the Northeast Conference title.
