Penn held Temple to 50 points on Saturday, but against the Owls, that's not always enough. And yesterday in the second game of the Big 5 Classic, it wasn't as Temple left the Palestra with a 50-46 victory. Dustin Salisbery could not miss, overshadowing Mardy Collins with 21 points, while Collins added 13 for the Owls (3-2). The Quakers (3-2) raced out to an early lead and held a 27-20 advantage at the half. But Temple opened the second half on a 17-4 run, taking control. Still, Penn had a chance down by two late, but with 15 seconds to play, Mark Zoller missed the front end of a one-and-one. Ibrahim Jaaber once again led the Quakers in scoring. Jaaber tallied 17 points, while David Whitehurst scored 10 -- all in the first half. Eric Osmundson continued his cold spell with 1-for-7 shooting -- all from behind the arc. In the first game of the doubleheader, Steven Smith had 26 points and 15 rebounds in La Salle's 62-50 win over Drexel. Thirteen of Smith's points came in the final 8:05.
NOTES: One day after attempting 55 free throws against Navy, Penn was held to just three attempts against the Owls. Temple's victory was its 59th straight while holding its opponent under 50 points.
