The Penn sprint football team suffered another painful loss, only a week after its championship dreams were shattered by Cornell, as it was defeated by Navy Friday on Franklin Field by a score of 62-15.
Navy dominated the game by scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter while its defense rendered the Quakers scoreless. Navy quarterback James Olsen was able to set up a 2-yard run for Richard Engle for their first touchdown and then completed passes to wide receivers Jonathan Chunn and Theo Williams to rack up the 21 points.
The Midshipmen continued with their campaign as they scored two more touchdowns on passes from Olsen to Williams and to wide receiver Kevin Laughary.
In the second quarter, Penn was able to score its first points of the game when senior running back Scott Pickett scored a one-yard touchdown after junior running back J.T. Hutchinson rushed for 71 yards. This touchdown was a feat in itself, as that Navy had not allowed a single opponent to score a touchdown all season.
Hutchinson and Pickett each finished the game with 86 and 118 yards on the ground, respectively.
The defensive highlights of the game came from Penn freshman defensive back Andrew Feigenbaum, who led the Quakers with nine tackles, an interception by junior wide receiver David Lopez, and a blocked PAT by senior defensive end Jesse David.
The Quakers hope to finish their season with an even 3-3 record with a win against their archrivals at Princeton. Penn has already beaten Princeton soundly earlier this season, 42-0, but is taking this game very seriously -- especially because it is the last game of the season.
"We certainly have to go up and not take Princeton lightly," coach Bill Wagner said. "We have to go up there and we have to beat them and we have to do it with class."
