Penn's School of Veterinary Medicine has chosen one of it's top professors to lead the school, University administrators announced earlier this week.
Joan Hendricks will become the new dean of the Vet School on Jan. 1.
Hendricks, the current Henry and Corinne R. Bower Professor of Small Animal Medicine and section chief of critical care in the Department of Clinical Studies, will replace Alan Kelly, who has held the position for 11 years.
"I love this place and being a vet here, and I think that Penn is the best place to move the field [of veterinary medicine] forward," Hendricks said.
Hendricks, who has worked at the school for over 20 years, earned both her Ph.D. and V.M.D. at Penn.
The search for a new dean for the Vet School began on Sept. 30 when Kelly said he was retiring.
"We looked all over the country, as well as internationally, and -- not surprising -- found the best candidate right here at Penn," President Amy Gutmann said in a press release.
