Scott Pickett and the Penn sprint football team have not had too difficult of a time with Princeton in the last several years -- the Tigers have not even won a game since the season opener in 1999.
And Friday night at Franklin Field, the senior added another emphatic blowout to the recent history between the two teams as the Quakers won 42-0.
Pickett's exclamation point came in the second quarter.
After two touchdown runs of 22 and 81 yards, Pickett took a handoff on his own 42 with about three and a half minutes left in the first half.
He started to run to the left, but had nowhere to go. Then, he completely reversed field, picking up blocks along the way.
The native of Irvine, Calif., cut his way back across the field, picked up more blockers, and took it all the way for a spectacular 58-yard score.
It was 28-0 at that point, and there was no chance for a comeback.
After beating Princeton (0-2) 49-8 and 61-28 last year, the Quakers (2-0) did not have as prolific of an attack this time around, but it seemed that this was really because the dogs were called off after a 21-point first quarter.
For the second straight game, banged-up quarterback Mike Loguidice -- who has been battling a separated left (non-throwing) shoulder -- was ineffective, going 1-of-7 with a 28-yard touchdown to Corey Higa.
The normally mobile Loguidice also only ran for four yards on seven carries, and had two fumbles, losing one.
He was replaced by freshman Mike D'Angelo, who had equally poor numbers in the air, completing two of nine passes for eight yards and an interception.
He did run 11 times for a total of four yards and a touchdown.
But just as the defense carried the team in its season-opener against Cornell, it was the running game and Pickett this time.
On the day, Pickett rushed for 190 yards on just eight carries -- a whopping 23.75 yards per carry.
Fellow running back J.T. Hutchinson also put up good numbers, with seven carries for 75 yards and a touchdown.
Max Greenky also had 59 yards on six carries for the Quakers.
After a bye week next week, Penn will play at Army on Oct. 14.
