North Phila. man tied to robbery at campus Cosi

Penn Police arrested a North Philadelphia man Sunday in connection with a robbery of the Cosi restaurant on campus Saturday.

Troy Martin, 38, of the 2100 block of Indiana Street, allegedly entered Cosi at about 7:15 a.m. Saturday, using a plastic bag and a hood to conceal his face.

Martin allegedly told an employee that he had a gun -- although he never showed one -- and demanded money.

The employee -- who was not injured during the robbery -- complied, reportedly giving Martin $100 from the cash register.

Police would not say how they identified Martin as their suspect, only that they used, "investigative techniques."

Penn detectives secured an arrest warrant, and Martin was taken into custody without incident Sunday afternoon by Penn Police in the unit block of South 37th Street -- the block south of Market Street.

He is charged with robbery, theft, receiving stolen property, making terroristic threats, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.

Martin has no affiliation with the University.

A Cosi manager declined to comment on the incident. He said he was instructed not to discuss anything pending further investigation.
