The Student Activities Council, the student government body in charge of recognizing, supervising and funding more than 200 undergraduate groups on campus, elected four new members to its executive committee.
Chosen from a total of six nominees, they are College sophomore Shirley Liang, Wharton sophomore Jasminka Arnautovic, and College juniors Nerlie Pierre and Daniel Pomerleano. College senior Philip Gommels, who was elected in February, will remain the group's chairman.
Nominees were given 90 seconds for speeches and three minutes to answer questions posed by SAC members.
"I can help a lot of the groups in SAC ... stretch their budgets," Liang said.
Pomerleano said that SAC general-body members are often not well-informed about rules and have little control over how the group operates. He added that he hopes to improve communication between SAC's general body and the board.
Since two sophomores were elected, executive-committee member Charita Walcott, a College senior, said that there will be "more of a balance with younger classes. ... This is always a concern becase [SAC] turns over members often."
