Freshman forward Klein wins two honors

The Penn men's soccer team's Mike Klein was named the Philadelphia Soccer Seven Player of the Week as well as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week yesterday for his exploits in the last seven days.

First, against Temple last Tuesday, Klein scored the game-winning goal -- the only score of the match -- in the 80th minute of his first collegiate game.

Then, in the Penn Soccer Classic, the native of Brookfield, Wis., scored in the eighth minute of Penn's 2-1 win over Lehigh on Sunday.

Those two games came sandwiched around the 2-0 victory over Villanova on Friday in the opener of the Penn Soccer Classic.

The Quakers next take the field on Friday when they visit South Carolina for the first game of the South Carolina Gamecock Classic.

The Yale men's basketball team recently added powerhouse Kansas to their 2005-06 slate.

The game will be at Lawrence's Allen Fieldhouse on Jan. 4, at 7 p.m.

It comes during a six-game road trip that has the Elis playing three games in Texas -- against James Madison and then either Savannah State or Texas A&M-Corpus; Christi on Dec. 29 and 30. and then at Rice on Jan. 2.

The last and only other time that the Jayhawks played the Elis was in 1975, as Kansas dispatched Yale 63-54 in the first round of the Jayhawk Classic.

In 2004-05, Kansas went 23-7 overall and shared the Big 12 regular-season championship with Oklahoma before losing as a No. 3 seed to Bucknell, 64-63, in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

Other Ivy League teams have also scheduled games against marquee schools for the upcoming season.

Dartmouth will play at new Atlantic Coast Conference member Boston College on Nov. 18, Princeton will be at Wake Forest on Dec. 17 and will duel with Stanford in Oakland, Calif., on Dec. 21.

Cornell may play Syracuse in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic to open the year, and plays at 2005 Pac-10 champion Washington on Jan. 2.

Columbia will visit Notre Dame on Dec. 23.
