Sports Brief: Ex-NHL goalie Richter to coach Yale hockey

Mike Richter, who won a Stanley Cup with the New York Rangers and a silver medal with the United States Olympic hockey team, will be a volunteer assistant coach for the Yale hockey team this coming school year.

The two-time winner of the Hart trophy as the NHL's most valuable player began taking classes at Yale last year.

Richter attended Wisconsin for two years before leaving for the NHL, where he won 301 games, and he is back in school to finish his undergraduate degree.

The Elis play in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association Hockey League (ECACHL) along with the other five Ivy League schools that have hockey programs.

Penn and Columbia are the only two schools in the Ivy League not represented in Division I hockey.
