Over 100 people showed up yesterday for the Undergraduate Assembly's first "UA 5K" -- a charity event that raised money for the the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
The event has raised about $2,500 from students and businesses so far, and additional donations are anticipated.
"It's going to start a tradition of this type of charity event for the UA," said Nursing senior Megan Mariotti, who organized the event.
Mariotti -- who began working on the event last fall -- chose to donate the money to National Multiple Sclerosis Society because her uncle was diagnosed with MS.
The race began and finished on College Green and went as far as 41st and Walnut streets.
College junior Alex Lorenc placed first in the men's division, College senior Claire Duncan took first in the women's division, and Wharton and Engineering senior and Daily Pennsylvanian columnist Conor O'Callaghan was the fastest UA contender.
"This was really one of our most ambitious events this year," Wharton junior and UA Vice Chairwoman Cynthia Wong said.
