Chuck Close, considered by many to be one of the most influential living artists, spoke to a full Zellerbach Theatre last night.
Close came to Penn as a part of the School of Design's Locks Foundation Distinguished Artists Series.
In front of a backdrop of slides of some of his most famous works, Close talked to the audience about his artistic development and discovering his own style.
He was paralyzed from the neck down in 1989 but learned to paint again using a brace. He continues to paint today.
Close is famous for his incredibly large and up-close portraits. His realistic work is based on the use of grids and dots and is often hardly distinguishable from photographs.
