In the world of swimming, the finish is all that counts.
On Mar. 5, the last day of the Eastern Intercollegiate Swimming League Championships at Harvard's Blodgett Pool, the Penn men's swimming and diving team finished strong.
"We had some great swims," Penn coach Mike Schnur said. "On the last night, we moved up two spots -- from eighth place to sixth."
The Quakers' surge was partially due to two swimmers who made the championship finals.
Junior Pat Maloney clinched third place in the 200-yard butterfly while freshman Yuchi Zhang earned a fifth-place finish.
Sophomore Jason McGrath took ninth in the 1650-yard freestyle. The night before, McGrath earned an eighth place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle.
Harvard won the overall EISL championship, earning 1460 points.
"It felt good to get a little revenge on Brown," Schnur said.
The Quakers are looking to improve on their finish, though.
"We have a terrific junior class," Schnur said. "We will have to make up for the loss of good seniors next year, but hopefully we'll finish even higher than this year."
