Brown University has named Michael Goldberger, the school's longtime director of admissions, as the new director of athletics.
Despite having spent the past 22 years in the admission office, Goldberger is no stranger to Brown athletics. In 1973 he came to Providence, R.I., as assistant coach for the baseball and football teams. After two years as the liaison between the athletics and admissions offices, he became associate admissions director in 1983. For the past 10 years, he has been the director of the office.
"For more than 30 years, Mike Goldberger has served the university -- particularly prospective students, athletes and their families -- with integrity, effectiveness and personal warmth," Brown president Ruth Simmons said after announcing the appointment.
