Runner Izu Emeagwali, a senior on the Penn women's track team, was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference's Women's Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
Last Saturday at the Lafayette-Rider Invitational in New York, the native of Rockaway, N.Y. returned to her home state and was the standout performer for the Quakers.
Emeagwali won the 55-meter dash and the 200m run, good enough to qualify for the ECACs in both events. Her time of 7.21 seconds in the 55m tied a school record, and her 25.07 in the 200m was the second fastest all-time in Penn history.
She also ran in the 4x400m relay, where the Quakers won with a new school-record time of 3:48.84.
The Red and Blue returns to the track the final weekend of the month for the Heptagonal Championships in Cambridge, Mass., and will be across the Charles River in Boston the next weekend for the ECACs.
Penn gymnast Emily Petkun also won the ECAC Player of the Week in her sport, receiving the honor yesterday.
The junior took home the award after her performances Feb. 9 against Temple and then in the quad meet on Feb. 12.
The native of Ardmore, Pa., won the parallel bars against the Owls and finished second in both the beam and the floor exercise as the Quakers pulled out an ultra-tight victory by the score of 189.5-188.6.
In the quad meet victory over Ursinus, Wilson and West Chester, Petkun tied for first on the beam and won the floor exercise outright.
For the season, Petkun is ranked ninth in the Northeast Region in the all-around, with an average score of 38.119 and is No. 2 in the ECAC.
She is also ranked third in the ECAC on the floor, averaging 9.690 per meet.
Overall, Penn is ranked sixth in the Northeast, second in the ECAC and first in the Ivy League with its 188.385 scoring average.
Penn heads south to Towson, Md. this weekend for Saturday's Towson Invitational -- the Quakers' final prep before the Ivy Classic at Yale the next week.
