M. Swimming swept; Women split weekend
In their first Ivy League meet of the season, both Penn swimming teams took on Princeton and Cornell this weekend at Sheerr Pool.
The men's team failed to come away with a win, falling to the Big Red, 155-87, and Princeton, 180-62.
Sophomore Joe Griffith had the team's only first-place finish on the day, winning the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:52.04.
The women's team was more successful on the day, cruising to victory over Cornell, 201-97. But the team was unable to come away with a win over a tough Princeton squad, falling 205-95 to the Tigers.
Penn's best performances on the day came from freshman Megan Carlin and sophomore Cameron Villarreal.
Carlin, a native of Vineland, N.J., won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.96. She also took second place in the 200-yard breaststroke.
A native of New Canaan, Conn., Villarreal took first place in the 500-yard freestyle and second place in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
Both swim teams return to action later today, when they travel across Philadelphia to take on La Salle.

Squash teams kick off season with perfection
You couldn't have asked for a much better way to start the season.
Both the men's and women's squash teams went undefeated in their first weekend of action, as the men opened with wins over Cornell (7-2) and Haverford (9-0) and the women topped Franklin and Marshall (9-0).
The win over the Big Red was especially notable for the men's team. It was the first time in Penn coach Craig Thorpe-Clark's five-year tenure at Penn that the team beat Cornell.
Seniors Drew Crockett and Eric Bardawil, along with juniors Colby Emerson and Jacob Himmelrich, shut out their opponents in the victory over their Ivy League rivals.
Not only did the men's squad sweep Haverford, but the Quakers won all all nine matches by a score of 3-0.
The women's team was almost as dominant against the Diplomats.
Only one Penn player dropped a game to an individual opponent.
Both teams will play next on Dec. 4, when the Red and Blue head north to New Haven, Conn., to square off against Ancient Eight rival Yale.
