Field Hockey recognized for stellar 2004 season

The Penn field hockey team received bad news yesterday -- it will not be playing in the NCAA Tournament.

But the Quakers also received a far more pleasant announcement, as four players were honored for postseason awards.

Melissa Black was named Ivy League Rookie of the Year. The freshman was a big part of Penn's resounding defensive success, also garnering a second-team All-Ivy selection in the process.

Senior Liz Lorelli, junior Lea Salese and sophomore Liz Schlossberg all took home first-team All-Ivy honors.

Cara Calahan, the heroine of the season finale against Princeton, was selected as Ivy League Player of the Week.

Women's soccer honored with 5 All-Ivy selections

Although the Penn women's soccer team fell short of its goal of winning the Ivy League title, the team did very well in terms of individual accolades all season.

The Quakers walked away with five All-Ivy selections. Leading the way, as usual, was senior Katy Cross, a unanimous first-team selection. She was joined on the first team by junior Robin Watson.

Senior Lydia Bojcun received second-team honors, while seniors Anna Halse and Rachelle Snyder earned honorable mentions.
