Men's basketball ranked second in Ivy media poll

The Ivy League's preseason media polls were released yesterday, and the men's team found itself in a familiar position.

The Quakers were picked to finish in second place, just as they did in 2003-04. Princeton, the defending Ancient Eight champion, tops the rankings with 114 votes, including 14 of 16 first-place votes. Penn received 111 votes and one first-place vote.

Yale was third with 85 votes, while Brown received the final first-place vote and finished in fourth with 83 votes.

In other men's basketball news, the team released its 2004-05 broadcast schedule. The team's Preseason NIT opener against Quinnipiac will air on both NESN and Fox Sports New York.

CN8 will lead the television coverage, broadcasting six Penn games including the Temple and Saint Joseph's games, as well as the home matchup against Princeton on Feb. 8.

WXPN-FM will cover Quakers basketball with 20 radio broadcasts this season.

Media predicts 3rd-place finish for W. Basketball

One year removed from an Ivy League title, the Penn women's basketball team was picked third in the preseason Ivy media poll.

The team received 99 votes and two first-place votes, trailing predicted Ancient Eight champion Dartmouth, with 114 votes, and Harvard, with 107 votes.

The Quakers must contend with the loss of 2003-04 Ivy League Player of the Year Jewel Clark. But Penn does return three starters and eight letterwinners.

The Red and Blue will appear on the YES Network Jan. 28 against Yale. Four games will be broadcast on XPN radio.
