This weekend, rivals that normally face off on the floor of the Palestra squared off on the links at the Penn/Big 5 Classic.

The event, held at the Philadelphia Cricket Club in Flourtown, Pa., featured individual competition among golfers from the city's six universities -- Penn, Villanova, Saint Joseph's, Temple, La Salle and Drexel.

There was also an overall competition, which featured an additional seven schools.

St. Joseph's followed up its Big 5 basketball title in the winter with a Big 5 golf title, shooting a combined 47-over-par.

Leading the Hawks to the city's golf title was junior Sean Seese. The Huntington Valley, Pa., native posted the fourth-best score of the weekend (+6), earning him Atlantic-10 Player of the Week honors.

Penn finished just two strokes behind St. Joseph's at 49-over-par. This was the sixth-best overall score on the day.

Junior Derek Rogers was Penn's leading scorer, finishing 11th overall with a 9-over-par.

Garrett Wentzel (+12) finished 22nd, Dean Merrill finished 26th (+13) and Patrick Cooper took 37th (+15) for the Quakers.

Sophomore Sean Barrett had Penn's worst score on the day, finishing in 45th place with a 17-over-par.

Princeton won the overall competition, shooting 21 strokes over par.

The Tigers were led by strong performances by Jason Gerken and Brent Herlihy, who finished first and third, respectively.

Gerken was the only golfer on the day who shot even par on the weekend. The Logan, Ohio, native shot a 71 in both rounds.

Herlihy, a Glens Falls, N.Y., native, shot a 5-over-par.

The Tigers were the only school to place four golfers in the top 10.

Penn State's Ted Neville shot a 4-over-par on the weekend, good enough for second place.

Finishing behind Princeton in the overall competition was William & Mary (+31), the only school besides Princeton to have multiple golfers in the top 10.

The Nittany Lions (+35) finished just four strokes behind the Tribe, with Georgetown finishing in fourth place (+44).

Drexel (+55) had the third- best score out of the Philadelphia schools, followed by Villanova (+59), Temple (+66) and La Salle (+95).

This was Penn's final event of the fall season, the first competition under new head coach Rob Powelson. The best finish for the Quakers during the fall was a second-place showing at the Cornell Invitational, held in Ithaca, N.Y., on Sept. 26.
