Sprint loses to Cornell in high-scoring rematch
On Sept. 17, the Penn sprint football team handily defeated Cornell, 35-13, at Franklin Field. When the two teams met this past Friday in Ithaca, N.Y., however, the Quakers were unable to top the Big Red, falling 34-27.
Cornell never trailed in the game, thanks in part to its 21-point second quarter. Penn was able to pull within a touchdown with roughly eight minutes remaining.
Quakers quarterback Mike Loguidice was 19-for-32 for 250 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 52 yards on the day. Running back J.T. Hutchinson had 132 yards on the ground.
Wide receiver Pat Monaghan had 118 yards and was named Collegiate Sprint Football League Special Teams Player of the Week.

Crew teams compete in Boston's Head of Charles
The Quakers rowed in one of the world's biggest crew regattas this past weekend, Boston's Head of the Charles.
The men's lightweight eight finished eighth out of 21 boats with a time of 11:30. The youth four team finished 18th (14:05).
Penn's heavyweight freshman team had a time of 11:41.2, good enough for third place.
The women's squad finished 17th out of 42 boats in the women's eight championship competition.

Fleischer to play for U.S. at Maccabiah Games
Junior Jennifer Fleischer will play for the United States Basketball Team at the 17th World Maccabiah Games, which will take place in Israel this July.
The squad is sponsored by Maccabi USA/Sports for Israel, an organization dedicated to promoting Jewish pride and increasing knowledge about Israel and Judaism through athletic competition.
The New Hartford, N.Y., native tried out for the team on Oct. 2 and Oct. 3 and was informed that she made the squad on Monday.

W. Tennis plays host for ITA Eastern Regionals
Penn played host to the Wilson/ITA Eastern Regional Tennis Championships over fall break.
Freshmen Julia Koulbitskaya and Yulia Rivelis advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles bracket, but would go no further. Koulbitskaya fell to Harvard's Courtney Bergman, the No. 3 seed, and Rivelis lost to No. 6 Susanna Lingman, also from Harvard.
Koulbitskaya also advanced to the quarterfinals of the doubles bracket along with partner Michelle Mitchell, before falling to the second-ranked team from Maryland.

League honors Mathews for rushing effort at Yale
Sam Mathews was named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week for his impressive performance this past Saturday at Yale.
The Pittsburgh native had 169 yards and two touchdowns in the Quakers' 17-7 victory over the Elis in New Haven, Conn.
The Navy transfer also had a career-high 74 yards receiving on the day.
This was Mathews' best rushing output of the season.
