Penn's Hobson named Ivy Rookie of the Week

Although the Penn men's soccer team failed to go two-for-two on the field this weekend, as it split against Wisconsin and Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the Quakers took home two Ancient Eight honors this past weekend.

Freshman midfielder Derek Hobson was named Ivy Rookie Of The Week. In the Red and Blue's 3-0 win over Wisconsin, Hobson scored his first collegiate goal and added an assist.

Junior Justin Estrada earned a spot on the Honor Roll for his four points over the weekend.

-- Harry Berezin M. hoops assistant joins new staff at La Salle

Harris Adler, an unpaid assistant coach on the Penn men's basketball team the past two seasons, has joined the staff of new La Salle coach John Giannini.

After last summer's sexual assault scandal, Giannini has the task of not only leading the Explorers back to the NCAA Tournament, but also of restoring the reputation of the program in the Philadelphia community.

The hiring of Adler, who will now be a paid coach, should help do both.

Adler graduated from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Sciences in 1998. He began his coaching career at Salem Community College in New Jersey.

Before coming to Penn in 2002, Adler served as an assistant at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.

-- H.B. Men's Golf starts season with 11th-place finish

Penn men's golf began the year by tying for 11th place at the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md. The Quakers shot a 304 on day one and a 303 on day two to finish with a 607 overall score. Towson won the competition with a 584.

Junior Derek Rogers led Penn with a four-over par 146, good enough for 10th place individually.
