Sigma Kappa secures new house for next year

Sorority to be displaced from its current locale by Phi Sigma Sigma

As the recently recolonized Phi Sigma Sigma sorority plans to move 17 of its new sisters into its house at 4032 Walnut St. in the fall of 2004, Sigma Kappa sorority -- which currently occupies the house -- prepares for a graceful exit.

Sigma Kappa has "officially secured housing for next year," according to Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs Associate Director for Programming Lea Shafer. "Their new house will be at 3928 Spruce St."

Eighteen Sigma Kappa sisters will be living in the new sorority house next fall, according to Sigma Kappa President and Wharton junior Archana Lakshman.

"The entire chapter is very excited about this opportunity because we now have a beautiful house that is even closer to campus," Lakshman said, adding that the sorority has leased the house for five years with renewal options.

The existence of a fraternity and sorority house has always been particularly attractive to prospective rushees.

"I would like to live in the house," potential future Phi Sigma Sigma sister and College sophomore Adriana Trenev said. "I think it fosters a sense of community and it's a good way to meet people.

"It would be a bonding experience," she added, calling living with other sisters "a good way to get involved with whatever sorority you're in."
