Nigerian national team training at Rhodes again today, tomorrow

The "Super Falcons" are flying at Penn again.

After losing its opening game of the 2003 Women's World Cup to North Korea, 3-0, the Nigerian women's national team will train at Rhodes Field today from 7 to 9 a.m. and and tomorrow from 1 to 3 p.m.

Saturday, Pyol Hui Jin scored to give the North Koreans an early 1-0 lead. Un Gyong Ri and Pyol Hui Jin put two home late to cement the win over Nigeria. Nigeria's next game is against the United States at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Lincoln Financial Field in South Philadelphia.

Penn's facility was selected as one of two training venues for foreign teams during the World Cup, along with Villanova University. Rhodes Field also hosted the North Korean national team last week, which plays Sweden at 4:45 p.m. Thursday.

The U.S. opened play on Sunday with a 3-1 victory over Sweden before 34,144 spectators at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.

Kristine Lilly, Cindy Parlow and Shannon Boxx scored for the defending World Cup champions, and Mia Hamm assisted on all three goals. The American team held an open practice at Chestnut Hill Academy yesterday and was scheduled to do so again today, but that has been canceled.

Reports on the Internet have said that approximately 50,000 tickets have been sold for Thursday's Philadelphia doubleheader, which will be televised on ESPN2.

The U.S.-North Korea game in Columbus, Ohio this Sunday officially sold out yesterday evening.
