Sam Burley became Penn's second NCAA Champion in two days when he won the 800 meters on Saturday in 1:46.50. Texas Tech's Jonathan Johnson was second in 1:46.51.
Burley and Johsnon were one-two the entire race, coming through with a 51.2 split after the first lap. Burley pulled away down the straightaway and held off a desperation lean by Johnson.
It was the culmination of a successful career and season for Burley, who was second at Nationals last year. This season, he also won the 800 title at Heptagonal Championships and NCAA East Regionals.
With Burley's first-place finish, the Quakers finished tied for 11th in the nation as a team.
