Hoffman fourth Penn alum headed to NFL

Former Penn quarterback Gavin Hoffman signed a two-year deal with the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals on Tuesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Hoffman, who led the Quakers to an Ivy League championship in 2000 and a second-place finish last season, has become the third member of the 2001 Penn football team to sign a contract with an NFL team as a rookie free agent.

Running back Kris Ryan signed last week with the Detroit Lions, while safety Kunle Williams signed with the Cleveland Browns. Penn offensive tackle Jeff Hatch was drafted in the third round by the New York Giants, but has yet to officially ink a deal.

Hoffman, who won the Bushnell Cup as the Ivy League's Most Valuable Player in 2000, ended his Penn career with a long list of records, including most touchdowns thrown (50) and passing yards (7,542).

Hoffman was honorable mention All-American and second team All-Ivy this year.
