The Ivy League co-champion Penn women's soccer team added a few more accolades to its already impressive resume yesterday.
Rookies Katy Cross and Rachelle Snyder were named by the National Soccer Coaches' Association to the All Mid-Atlantic Teams. Cross received first team honors, while Snyder was named to the second team.
"The two had a lot of success this season, and they are very deserving of this honor," Penn coach Darren Ambrose said. "I'm very proud of them."
The two freshmen forwards from California helped Penn record its best ever season (13-2-3) and its second-ever NCAA College Cup berth. Cross, the Ivy League Rookie of the Year, led the Quakers -- and the Ancient Eight -- in almost every offensive category. On the season, she netted 34 points -- a Penn single-season record -- while Snyder tallied 23.
Snyder also set school records for most goals (4) and most points (8) in a game in her second game with the Quakers, a 6-4 Penn triumph over Delaware.
"I really wasn't expecting this at all," Cross said. "I just wanted to do my best this year, but it's great that the best I could do helped me win all of these awards."
