Police identify alleged AXO robber

University Police yesterday identified a suspect in connection with the alleged robbery of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority house on Oct. 29.

According to Deputy Chief of Investigations William Danks, police have a warrant for the arrest of West Philadelphia resident George Cullins and are trying to find him.

"We've been looking pretty actively for him," Danks said. "But he also knows we're looking for him."

Cullins is reportedly on probation, and agents with the state's Office of Probation and Parole are helping University Police in their search.

More than two weeks ago, three AXO sisters were reportedly robbed when an unarmed African-American man, 5 feet 9 inches and wearing blue jeans, entered a room of the sorority house through an open window and demanded money.

After the incident, the students reportedly identified the alleged robber through the use of police mugshots.

About three days after the incident, University Police announced they were in the process of obtaining a warrant for the suspect in the case -- later identified as Cullins.

Suspect sought in two armed robberies University Police announced yesterday they are in the process of obtaining a warrant for the arrest of a man in connection with one of two armed robberies that occurred between 40th and 41st streets last week.

Both robberies were reportedly committed by men fitting similar descriptions.

According to Deputy Chief of Investigations William Danks, police have submitted a warrant in connection with the first robbery -- which allegedly occurred on Nov. 4 on 41st Street between Locust and Spruce streets -- to the Philadelphia District Attorney's office.

In that incident, an African-American man, described as about 5 feet 8 inches, 160 pounds and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants, reportedly jogged up to a male University student on 41st Street and demanded money.

When the student hesitated, the man reportedly pulled out a handgun.

The alleged robber, presumably the man police are looking for, reportedly fled with the student's wallet, which contained close to $100 in cash, a credit card and the student's PennCard.

The second alleged robbery reportedly occurred on Nov. 7 on South 40th Street, just below Market Street.

In that incident, an African-American man, described as about 5 feet 7 inches, 160 pounds and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black jeans, reportedly robbed a man affiliated with the University of $17 by wielding a gun.

According to Danks, police have not identified a suspect in connection with the second incident but that "there is a likelihood [the man wanted in connection with the first incident] did the one on 40th south of Market."
