Brotherhood of the Wolf (Le Pacte des Loups) is an agonizing venture that involves screaming big-breasted women and disdainful aristocrats. The film can hardly be categorized as just a horror mystery. In Brotherhood, the Marquis sends Sir Gregoire de Fronsac (Samuel Le Bihan) and his Native American mute sidekick Mani (Mark Dacascos) to investigate the killings of a beast that has been terrorizing the countryside (hence the screaming maidens). At times, Gregoire seems to be paying more attention to a lady aristocrat then to the primary task of capturing the scary wolf, removing the element of suspense. Then, there are random fights within the story, in which Mark Dacascos shows off his martial arts skills. The rest of the forgettable plot meanders between the beast's new victims and Gregoire's social trysts. In the end, the lengthy film brings nothing new to the screen.
