Process on Paper: Works From Charles Bregler's Thomas Eakins Collection

Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts

Broad and Cherry streets

$8/ $7 seniors and students

Through January 6

(215) 972-7600

Isn't it funny how schools and cities criticize artists that go against the grain, and then when they become famous, take all the credit? Back in the day, PAFA pressured Eakins to resign from his teaching position after he allowed his class to be inspired by a nude male model. Now Eakins is considered one of America's greatest 19th century painters, particularly with his figure drawings and portraits, and PAFA is featuring his artwork, proud as a peacock. Damn Communists.

Neko Case and Her Boyfriends

The Tin Angel

20 S. Second Street

10:30 p.m., $12

(215) 928-0978

Goodness, no, Case is not another Britney Spears in the making. Virginia-born Case has been around the block (musically--not with her back-up band of Boyfriends), beginning her career as a drummer in punk group Maow. Now she's a full-fledged country singer, with a Furnace Room Lullaby to show for it. Sorry to ruin the fantasy, boys.

Tania Martinez:

Not SoleLy Cinema

Painted Bride Arts Center

230 Vine Street

8 p.m., $5 Members, $10

(215) 925-9914

Everyone knows that hip-hop and politics go together like peas and carrots. When I think of the great political minds of this generation, names like Wyclef and Erykah come to mind. But hip- hop, politics and film... that's a goldmine! Martinez showcases her award- winning documentary on Mumia Abu-Jamal, blending his political message and yes, hip-hop, urging the blind masses to rock the vote.

Drums and Tuba

The Khyber

56 S. Second Street

10 p.m., $8

(215) 238-5888

Turning its nerdy high school extracurricular into something a bit cooler, Drums and Tuba makes no apologies for their Strauss meets Size persona. The tuba is a magnificent instrument. Big, loud, and overwhelmingly girthy, tuba players are the playas of band camp. Yeah tuba! Those monsters get my feet dancing at every note. But add the drums and that's magic.

English Country Dancing

Summit Presbyterian Church

6757 Greene Street

8 p.m., $10

(215) 843-3186

The only good things that ever came out of Britain were us, the Beatles and English country dancing. If you've ever come to a writer's meeting, you know that our very own editor-in-chief is a mean country dancer and can show you a thing or two about getting jiggy just like Hugh Grant, Oasis and both Merchant and Ivory. My knickers are already in a bunch, old chap.
