The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Trocadero Theatre

1003 Arch St.

October 29

8 p.m., Free, 21+

(215) 922-LIVE

Oooo... Blood, gore... But wait--no sex? What's up with that? My Visual Comm prof would go insane analyzing its commentary on society. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the ultimate classic slasher flick from 1974. Five teens oh-so-wisely pick up a creepy hitchhiker who eventually slashes at one of them, and then continue on their merry way. Soon they end up at an old isolated farmhouse, filled with the traditional nuclear family of cannibals. Shouldn't they get the hint when one of their new acquaintances' names is Leatherface? And, uh, wait, that leather mask doesn't look like the hide of MooMoo. In the style of directors who know they can't make the gore as bad as it really should be, Tobe Hooper left the worst of the gruesomeness to the imagination. But fear not, there's enough violence in the film to satisfy the sicko in you--and for the even crueler bastard out there, one of the clueless is a guy in a wheelchair. Perhaps most chilling is the fact that the story is based loosely on Wisconsin killer Edward Gein. Admittedly, the Troc is not quite a drive-in movie theater, but you do what you can in celebration of All Hallow's Eve.

The Pharcyde

TLA

334 South Street

8 p.m., $18/ $20 DOS

(215) 922-1011

Much like De La Soul and a Tribe Called Quest, the Pharcyde adds a quirky sense of humor and live instrumentation to its mix of tightly flowing rhymes and spoken word passages that sets it apart from others in the rap game. For them its not about the bling-bling or the hoes and bitches, it's more about getting the message out, dissin' on yo mama, and packing the occasional pipe.
