Two Penn Police officers suffered minor injuries while making an arrest early Saturday morning. Officers Joanne Ketler and Richard Tucker were injured between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m., while attempting to break up a fight on the 3900 block of Delancey Street. When Ketler and Tucker attempted to handcuff two of the combatants, the combatants allegedly resisted and attacked the officers. Ketler twisted her wrist and Tucker was struck in the chest and arms. Both officers were treated for their injuries at the Hospital of the University of the Pennsylvania. The two men taken into custody were 20-year-old Joe Jones and a juvenile, whose name was not released. Neither man was affiliated with the University. "[The arrest] was handled with a lot of discretion," Deputy Chief of Investigations Tom King said. "There was no employment of anything more than handcuffs. It looks like they handled it well." And yesterday, a man unaffiliated with the University reported that as he was walking west on the 4000 block of Woodland Avenue, a man flashed a shiny object at him. The suspect then demanded his bag. The man swung his bag at the suspect, who then fled. The man did not sustain any injuries. The suspect was described as an African-American man in his 20s, with a thin build and a shaved head. He was wearing a three-quarter-length black coat at the time of the incident. -- Caryn Tamber
