University President Judith Rodin was recently named the fourth most powerful person in the city by Philadelphia magazine, up from seventh place last year. The magazine listed the "Power 100" of the City of Brotherly Love in its November issue, which hit newsstands late last week. Rodin said that her recognition is also a compliment to Penn. "I am really excited that Penn is recognized as so important to Philadelphia," Rodin said. "We've been doing a lot with the city and for the city," she continued, noting that the University and Philadelphia are "intertwined." The magazine said Rodin's strength lies in the power given to her by the University's $3 billion endowment, noting that Rodin has "the resources to do whatever she wants in this town." But it added that her high-profile status means she may leave Penn for bigger things. Philadelphia Mayor John Street topped the list of the Power 100. David L. Cohen -- who served as chief of staff to former Mayor Ed Rendell and is now a partner in a prestigious city law firm -- came in second, with Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge sitting in the third spot. Legal Studies Professor Kenneth Shropshire was also on the list, at No. 76. -- Stacy Humes-Schulz
