We hope that the two current vacancies are filled much more quickly;· To Brad34, the gentlemen of Pennsylvania Six-5000 and the students responsible for killing two young trees on Baltimore Avenue, for giving Penn's student body a bad name to so many different people;· To the Political Science Department, for again losing more professors this semester than it actually was able to hire;A recap of those things we liked from last semester, and a few with which we would have gladly done without.CHEERS· To the College of Arts and Sciences, for its continuing overhaul of the school's advising system and freshman orientation;· To Penn Students Against Sweatshops for raising the level of activism on campus and bringing the issue of sweatshop labor to the minds of Penn students;· To University Council, for supporting tough e-privacy guidelines that would protect students, faculty and staff from unwarranted searches of their e-mail and electronic files;· To the new leadership of the University of Pennsylvania Health System, for taking on a difficult task of financial remediation and ending Penn's relationship with the widely disliked Hunter Group consultancy;· To the University, for taking back its facilities services operations from Trammell Crow after two years of subpar performance from the for-profit firm;· To the Social Planning and Events Committee, for rounding out a semester of fine events with an enjoyable Spring Fling carnival and Penn Relays concert;· To the Undergraduate Assembly, for the strides it made in implementing proposals on undergraduate financial aid and outdoor recreational space;· To the new array of non-alcoholic social options on Penn's campus, including the 4040 indie music club;· To University Trustee Christopher Browne, for his generous $10 million donation for five new endowed professorships;· To the United Minorities Council, for trying to make life a little easier for many by proposing that the University send letters home in students' native languages.· And to the gymnastics, men's basketball and wrestling teams for taking their respective Ivy titles; to the women's squash team for winning its first-ever national championship; and to wrestler Brett Matter for winning the team's first individual national title in 58 yearsJEERS· To the University, for its poor handling and lack of forthrightness in response to a federal investigation into the death of a teenaged gene therapy patient;· To University President Judith Rodin and the Ad Hoc Committee on Sweatshop Labor, for agreeing that the best way to monitor factory conditions is to join neither of the two actual monitoring organizations;· To the Philadelphia School Board and West Philadelphia residents, whose bickering has set back construction on a new Penn-aided public school near campus;· To the University, for the persistent delays in the Sundance Cinemas and Perelman Quadrangle construction projects;· To the administration, for twice taking more than 15 months to name new deans.
