DP sports writer DP sports writer honored at banquet Daily Pennsylvanian sports writer Brian Hindo received the Harry Merrill Memorial College Sports Writing Award last night at the 96th annual Philadelphia Sports Writers Association dinner. Hindo, a College junior from Northbrook, Ill., received the honor for a feature story he wrote about Penn basketball player Oggie Kapetanovic, which appeared in the DP basketball preview issue in November. The awards dinner, which was held at the Hilton in Cherry Hill, N.J., honored some of the most famous sports figures in Philadelphia sports history. Allen Iverson, Charles Barkley and Pete Rose were among the honored guests. Penn senior men's basketball players Michael Jordan and Matt Langel were also recognized for leading the Quakers to the Ivy title last season, and Penn coach Fran Dunphy accepted the Humanitarian Award on behalf of the six Philadelphia Division I basketball programs for their involvement in Coaches Versus Cancer. -- Rick Haggerty
