Fire alarms evacuate Quad According to Facilities Services Control Center Supervisor Bill Rivel, the cause of the blaring alarms -- which continued for several hours -- was a problem with one of the building's sprinkler systems. "A sprinkler alarm burst down in the basement of the Morgan section," Rivel said, adding that the malfunction set off a chain reaction throughout the entire facility. A number of Quad dormitories were evacuated as police and fire units responded to the alarms, though most students returned to their rooms within a matter of minutes, several Quad residents said. And though the actual evacuation was short-lived, some residents found ample reason to leave again. "It's just too loud in there, and it keeps getting louder," one resident said as she scurried out of the building at around midnight to escape the noise. -- Jonathan Margulies
