UMC to elect top leaders tonight This year's election marks the end of College senior Chaz Howard's two-year term as chairperson and College senior Traci Curry's year as vice chairperson. The two nominees for chairperson are College junior Jerome Byam, a member of the Caribbean American Student Association, and College junior Archana Jayaram, a member of the South Asian Students Society. Anita Patel, also a College junior and member of the South Asian Students Society, is running unopposed for the vice chairperson position. Tonight, each nominee will give a five-minute speech and field questions for 10 minutes before the voting period in order to introduce themselves and their goals for the UMC in the upcoming year. Both Howard and Curry collected nominations for the two positions during the past several weeks. The rest of the board members will be elected early next semester, but the two top positions will be filled tonight to give the elected student leaders "more time to get acquainted with how the UMC works and what goes on," Curry said. To qualify for nomination a student must have membership in a UMC organization, but cannot be on that group's executive board, and must also be present at tonight's election meeting. -- Marina DeScenza
