Steven Woodson was 16 at the time of the attack, which shocked the Penn community because of its location in the heart of campus and prompted an increase in security measures. He was originally also charged with attempted murder and attempted rape. It was unclear as of last night the outcome of those charges and neither the prosecutor nor Woodson's public defender were available for comment. Woodson, who police arrested three days after the attack last November 8, was charged as an adult because of the severity of the alleged crimes. The early-morning attack occurred in a basement bathroom of Steinberg-Dietrich Hall, the main Wharton School building. The victim, then a sophomore, was leaving a stall when she was grabbed by an assailant who wrestled her to the ground with a 10-inch kitchen knife. The victim hit two panic alarms before escaping. Police believed that the assailant entered the building through a side entrance that was left propped open.
