The Palestra has been a showcase for basketball talent, as several Quakers players take the court every morning with college and pro stars. Michael Jordan and Geoff Owens have had to match up with the likes of Aaron McKie, Alvin Williams, Kenny Thomas and Jumaine Jones in practices and full-court scrimmages organized by John Hardnett and Fred Rogers. Meanwhile, the gym at Weightman Hall is currently host to the Penn Junior Fencing Camp, a program run by Quakers' coach Dave Micahnik for high school-age fencers. The camp is broken into a pair of two-week sessions with a day-long tournament serving as the culmination of each session. Forty-one people attended the first session, and 66 are scheduled to participate in the second session. The fencers are staying on campus at Harrison College House. The Penn boathouse has also been home to a camp this summer -- the Junior Women's National Team Selection Camp. Penn women's crew coach Barb Kirch heads the camp, which selects teams to compete in national and world competition. The rowers, who competed in the Independence Day Regatta on the Schuylkill River, stayed in Hamilton College House this summer.
