Wagner asked Penn to reschedule the game for next week, saying the team could not make the trip down from New York at all this week. But since the Quakers cannot play during reading days, the game has been permanently scratched. The news puts an abrupt end to the 19-year home of Penn baseball, Bower Field. A new facility being built now on Murphy Field is scheduled for completion by the start of the 2000 season, so last Sunday's 9-3 nightcap loss to Princeton now holds the distinction of being the last game ever played at Bower. The Quakers lost all four games against Princeton last weekend and were thus eliminated from Gehrig Division title contention. Penn's record now stands at 6-27 (3-13 Ivy League). The Wagner cancellation leaves Penn with only four games left this year -- a doubleheader series with Gehrig rival Cornell this Saturday and Sunday at noon at Hoy Field. Cornell is a hot team, having won three of four against Columbia last weekend to put itself in a tie with the Lions for second place in the Gehrig Division. Princeton sits atop the division with an 8-4 record, three games ahead of Cornell and Columbia. -- Brian Hindo
