Penn Relays elects five more to Wall of Fame Forde, now Lorna Fords Mitchell, was a 400 meter specialist for the Atoms, coached by Fred Thompson, and ran on a remarkable 21 winning teams at the Penn Relays from 1975 through 1983. Jones won six Penn Relays titles from 1974 through 1976, running on winning sprint relay teams and winning the 100 yard dash in 1974 and the 100 meter dash in 1976. While at Villanova, Bragg won the pole vault three years in succession, setting Carnival records in 1955 and 1957. He also won the Olympic Development pole vault in 1960 while competing for the United States Army, again setting a Carnival record. Reed first competed at the Relays in 1979 while in third grade, running for William Henry Harrison Elementary School in Philadelphia. -- Kent Malmros Caramanico wins ECAC Rookie of the Year Diana Caramanico, Penn women's basketball's freshman center, was honored once again for her 1997-98 season when the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) named her its Rookie of the Year yesterday. The 6'2" center was also named First Team All-Ivy League and All-Ivy League Rookie Team to add to her ECAC accolades Her play alongside seniors Michelle Maldonado and Colleen Kelly was one of the major factors in helping the Quakers finish their best season in seven years. Penn finished with an overall record of 13-13 and an Ivy League mark of 8-6. Caramanico led the Quakers this season with 20.2 points per game and 10 rebounds per contest. She was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week 10 times this season, including six straight to end the '97-'98 season. Penn's super-frosh led the Ivy League in field goal percentage (.546) and was second in blocks (1.3), scoring (20.2) and rebounding (10.0). Caramanico is the only freshman on the top-30 NCAA rebounding leaders list (28) and is currently 34th in the country on the NCAA scoring leaders list. Caramanico stands second in Penn history for points in a season (524) and most field goals made in a season (209). On her present pace, she will smash Kristin Brendell's ('91) school record for career points which currently stands at 1,656. -- Josh Callahan
