To the Editor: Granted, the ship's sinking resulted in a few famous American dead, but for the most part the victims were also British. Many Irish and Scot emigrants sailed third class and were kept from the too few lifeboats required to be carried at that time. Nicely juxtaposed with the letter responding to "Save the Poli Sci department" is this product of a Political Science major? John Cooper School of Medicine staff u To the Editor: I wanted to take slight issue with Michael Pereira's column. In it, Pereira states that, "the story of Titanic highlights the moral repercussions of the headlong scramble for modernization -- uniquely American pride punctured by nature, and the fatal reality of widening class inequality" This well-worn leftist assertion begs an even greater factual question: if Titanic was a registered British vessel, built for a British shipping line and constructed in Ireland, how can it be representative of anything uniquely American?
