The transaction would have sent Maloney along with Rockets power forward Kevin Willis, swingman Mario Elie and Houston's 1998 first round draft pick to the Raptors for guard Damon Stoudamire, guard/forward Walt Williams and center Zan Tabak. After all details of the trade were supposedly finished, Grunwald began receiving an inflow of calls from other general managers that were offering better packages for Stoudamire. New York Knicks General Manager Dave Checketts supposedly offered Grunwald a package of swingman Chris Mills and guards Charlie Ward and Chris Childs for Stoudamire. The Lakers proposed to deal guard Nick Van Exel and power forward Elden Campbell. With his status in limbo, Stoudamire further raised his stock's value last night against Sacramento, scoring Toronto's game-winning basket with 3.8 seconds left in the Raptors' 99-98 victory over Sacramento. In the contest, Stoudamire tied a career high 36 points while grabbing nine rebounds and dishing 10 assists. Maloney scored 18 last night for the Rockets. -- Marc Edelman
