Long-term space for health groups

The temporary spot in the former Public Safety building is not enough. For the 18-month interim, the University has assigned a temporary spot to the Office of Health Education in the building formerly occupied by the Division of Public Safety at 3914 Locust Walk. That's good, but it's not good enough. The Office of Health Education -- the umbrella body for Facilitating Learning About Sexual Health, Students Together Against Acquaintance Rape, the Drug and Alcohol Resource Team, the Student Health Advisory Board and Guide to Understanding Image, Dieting and Eating -- must receive permanent space as soon as possible. Peer health organizations should not be taken for granted, especially on a college campus. They offer essential health education and support to the community. And while the University has no definite scale by which to measure the relative importance of one student group against another, it's hard to deny that the Office of Health Education performs an extremely important function. Whether students need help kicking a drug addiction, have questions about a sexually transmitted disease or an eating disorder or want support in dealing with a pregnancy, they must have a permanent place to go.
