The Daily Pennsylvanian The award --Esponsored by the Associated Collegiate Press and the Newspaper Association of America Foundation --Eis given in "recognition of general excellence and outstanding achievement in a college newspaper." Ten daily newspapers were named as finalists for the award earlier this year, with the five winners announced during the annual ACP/College Media Advisors convention in Chicago on Saturday. The convention brought together hundreds of collegiate editors and staffers for a weekend of seminars and workshops. Five papers win the award annually for their work the previous academic year. This year's winners also included Indiana University at Bloomington's Indiana Daily Student; The Daily Nebraskan at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln; Syracuse University's Daily Orange and University of Arizona at Tuscon's Arizona Daily Wildcat. The Daily Pennsylvanian last won the award after the 1989-90 school year. "This is the culmination of a lot of hard work by hundreds of dedicated reporters, editors, business managers and staffers," said DP Executive Editor Eric Goldstein. "I appreciate the time and efforts of everyone involved with the paper over the past year, including many who graduated in the spring." The DP also took third place for editorial content in the "Best of the Net" competition sponsored by the ACP and Wired News. The DP redesigned its World Wide Web site, http://dailypennsylvanian.com, last semester. "Although we don't work with the awards in mind, it's nice to be recognized," Goldstein added.
