Bucks employee reports robbery

A store employee claimed that a man wielding a gun robbed Bucks County Coffee Company Wednesday night, walking away with $700. The employee told police that the man entered the store -- located on the 3400 block of Sansom Street -- shortly after 10 p.m., pointed a revolver at the night manager and demanded money, according to University Police. "There's not a lot of information right now," Director of Police Operations Maureen Rush said. "We're doing a further investigation, talking more to the employee that was allegedly robbed." Rush added that "a report of a robbery is a very big concern to us." The night manager in the store at the time told police the robber is a black male 30-35 years old, 5'10" and 225 pounds, and that he fled the scene on foot after receiving the $700 cash, police said. "There was a survey done immediately outside [the store]," Rush said. "No one saw anyone fitting that description." The incident at Bucks marks the first reported armed robbery of a local store this semester. Last February, gunmen robbed the American Diner at 42nd and Chestnut streets. In that incident, two University students were among those robbed by four people, who were later arrested by University Police. And during last fall's crime wave, gunmen robbed the Uni-Mart at 40th and Locust streets, the Boston Market at 39th and Chestnut streets and numerous area 7-Elevens. In an unrelated incident, Bassett's Original Turkey in the food court was burglarized Wednesday night when someone took $2500 from the store after it had been closed for the night. The burglar or burglars entered the restaurant at 3409 Walnut Street between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 8:45 a.m. Thursday, University Police said. Detective John Peterson said the outer door of the safe was not locked, and the inner door was apparently forced open. The incident remains under investigation by University Police.
