Fifty-six students declared their candidacy last night for the Undergraduate Assembly elections scheduled for March 25 and 26. Interest in UA candidacy has vastly increased over last spring, when only 34 students sought the 25 positions. Of the 56 candidates, 23 are incumbents, as opposed to last year's 15. And 22 candidates are members of Greek organizations. "I think it's great Greeks are taking an interest in student government," InterFraternity Council President Matt Baker, a College and Engineering junior, said. "Greeks are very much a part of this campus." Baker added that after his conversations with individual Greek candidates, he found that fraternity affairs -- such as UA funding -- was an issue but not their entire platform. The incumbents include Nursing junior Rebecca Pisano, Engineering junior John Seitz, Engineering sophomore Michael Bressler, Engineering freshman Ben Wallfisch, Wharton juniors Jed Prevor and Steve Schorr, Wharton freshman Dan Kryzanowski, College juniors Meredith Hertz, Larry Kamin, Wendy Mongillo and Mike Steib, College sophomores Hillary Aisenstein, Samara Barend, Noah Bilenker, David Futer, Mark Sagat and Olivia Troye and College freshmen Matthew Chait, Bill Conway, Josh Fink, David Goldberger, Seth Kruglak and Lori Taliaferro. Vying for the one available Nursing seat are Pisano and sophomore J. Olivia Voellmicke. Eight students will compete for the three Engineering seats. They are Seitz, Bressler, Wallfisch, senior Bradley Edelman, juniors Ryan Gould and sophomores Hadley Harris, Karl Hutter and Jesse Janosov. The 12 Wharton candidates will vie for five seats. The Wharton junior candidates include Prevor, Schorr, Ryan Anderson, Alan Danzig and Charley Margosian. The Wharton sophomore candidates include Tavis Cannell, Clive Correia, Roger DaSilva, Luv Shah and Neil Sikder. Wharton freshmen Dan Kryzanowski and Jonathan Meltzer are also running. Thirty-four College undergraduates will compete for the 16 open seats -- as many candidates as ran in the entire election last year. These include Hertz, Kamin, Mongillo, Steib, College juniors Drew Corrandini, Adam Etra, Aaron Kotok, Jason Miller, Lee Rosen, Daniel Slawe, Paul Welfer and Even Witt will be running in the election. The College sophomore candidates include Aisenstein, Barend, Bilenker, Futer, Sagat, Troye, Carter Brynes, Jeremy Katz, Sonal Mehta, Chad Pimentel, Andrew Ross and David Winter. And College freshmen Chait, Conway, Fink, Goldberger, Taliaferro, Chaz Howard, Seth Kruglak, Lisa Marshall, Sara Shenkan and Michael Silver will run, as well. Twenty-three College candidates and one Wharton candidate will also compete for a seat on University Council. The juniors vying for Council seats include Danzig, Etra, Hertz, Kamin, Mongillo, Rosen, Slawe and Witt. The sophomore Council candidates include Aisenstein, Barend, Bilenker, Futer, Katz, Mehta, Ross, Sagat, Troye and Winter.
